2008—The new center
During the first years of this project the children lived with Doña Coco and her family in their apartment. In order to create more space for everyone Coco and her family began renovating an abandoned building on family property. Finishing the Casa Hogar proved difficult while taking care for her own family and the additional children. However, with the support of individual  donors the building was transformed in 2008 into a new center for the Casa Hogar.

This larger space can house up to 25 children up to the age of twelve. The home has two baths, two dormitories, a kitchen, a large space for play and work, an office, a laundry and a garden.

2008—The new addition to our home
With the support of Techamos Una Mano (TUM) and Rodrigo Arnaud Bello, a
professor of Economics and Finance at the Institute Blaise Pascale (IBP), a new room was built for Hijos de la Luna. Located in the garden area this very unique room was built using wood and tetra pak-milk and juice cartons, and PET-plastic bottles. The walls are covered with a layer of metallic mesh and a layer of cement to finalize the ecofriendly building. Due to the simple construction the entire structure was built in ten days at a very low cost, approximately US$2,400.

Thanks to the teacher Enriquta Perez Delgado, coordinator of social services for IBP, we were able to find out about the work of Hijos de la Luna A.C. and  señora Socorro. In September we approached
señora Socorro and told her about our idea of building a room out of tetra pak for her children, something that is now a reality.

The students of IBP involved with this project are: María Fernanda Ramírez, Daniela Chiñas, Itzel Gutierrez, Ari Carballido, Pedro Martínez, Joahana Gijsbers, Gabriela Castro, Marianne Esperón, Susana Sigüenza, Karen Narváez, Mariana Barranco, Lorena Aragón, Michelle Liljehult, Marigel Fernández, Anaé Garza, Rosenda Wilde, Jorge Vargas, Amalia Cruz, Cristina Cruz.
